How is emphasis or visual contrast created?

Contrast from one topic to another topic is created by pictures that are related to the new topic and headers. For example for exercise and fitness the picture is of a girl jump ropping. Also between each piece that is different there is white space. This gives the page a broken format and tells the reader that a new group of information is coming up.
